Looking to the Future: Indian Institute of Science (IISc)

It is an exciting time for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). We would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of several new initiatives that have been gaining tremendous momentum, of late at IISc. Some of the key highlights are:

  1. IISc’s Post Graduate Medical School is the newest initiative the Institute has undertaken. Computer science, artificial intelligence, Nano Engineering, Machine Learning and many other such subjects are required in addition to traditional biological sciences to address complex problems faced in healthcare. The MD-PhD integrated dual degree program will train students in translational research, give them a chance to understand the nuances of clinical problems and garner the required knowledge to work on new solutions. Concurrently, the MD/MS PG program aims to provide comprehensive clinical training to MBBS graduates. The end goal is to reduce the overall cost of healthcare delivery for all the emerging markets by bringing the interdisciplinary thinking;

  2. The newly announced Bagchi Parthasarathy Hospital, a not-for-profit 800 Plus bed multispecialty hospital will facilitate comprehensive treatments and healthcare delivery in 16 super-specialties, including cardiology & neurology, in addition to advanced diagnostics, biorepository & other advanced facilities. The hospital will have provision for a comprehensive biobank/biorepository for research purposes. Other IISc Medical School will cater to clinical training and research of MD-PhD students in the academic program & MS, DM/MCh & MPH programs in select disciplines;

  3. In addition to these, a newly announced Under-graduate Instructional Complex totaling approximately 141,000 sq. ft will Increase current under-graduate program strength from 130 to 300 over time since the current infrastructure is insufficient to accommodate this increase. It will also help IISc to scale the new B.Tech. program in Math & Computing (launched in August 2022) and will benefit close to 1000 students every year and more importantly rejuvenate the undergraduate program at IISc.

We implore anyone interested as well as the proud alumni of IISc and members of IISc AANA to participate in this new phase of growth at IISc. IISc, being a premier research institute in India for over 110 years, has 40 research departments, & centers producing over 2902 PhDs and over 56,456 research papers, over 537 faculty and 100/100 citations per faculty, provides an ample opportunity for engaging on many initiatives.
