Prashant Kothari
Founder and Managing Director, Hamilton Ventures
Prashant Kothari was born in Mumbai and grew up in Chennai, and lives in the Washington DC metro area with his wife and 12-yr old son.
He is currently the Founder and Managing Director at Hamilton Ventures, a seed-stage proptech-only venture capital firm. In addition, he’s an active investor in and coach, mentor and advisor to several other startups. He was previously the Managing Director at SitusAMC, a Stone Point Capital portfolio company, the world’s largest private equity firm focused on financial services. SitusAMC is the #1 provider of quality control, 7000 employees spread across three continents and 30 offices. SitusAMC acquired Prashant’s firm, String Real Estate Information Services in 2019.
Prashant’s past lives include diamond trading and jewelry manufacturing (the family business), mortgage derivatives structuring and trading (the #1 desk on Wall Street), corporate America (Office of the President at Freddie Mac) and multiple entrepreneurial ventures in ecommerce, epublishing and real estate technology.
Prashant is a strong strategic thinker and highly effective leader, and has broad knowledge and expertise across financial services, asset management, real estate and technology. He is keenly interested in the intersection of finance + technology + housing + data and the ultimate impact on end-borrowers and is a sought-after speaker at industry and entrepreneurial conferences and events.
Prashant is a member of the Gathering of Titans and MasterMind Talks, two elite groups of seasoned serial entrepreneurs that meet annually.
In 1998 Prashant created and ran a mentoring program for South Asian youth (focused on the children of lower-income migrants) that was the largest such program in the US at that time. He’s also an amateur economist and founded a group blog, The Indian Economy Blog (sadly dormant now) with 15 contributors from across the globe that was cited by numerous mainstream media sources (Fast Company, the Times of London and the Economist) as one of the top five blogs on India.
Prashant has an undergraduate degree from Loyola College, Chennai where he was the Valedictorian and an MBA from the UCLA-Anderson Graduate School of Business where he was a Riordan Scholar. He is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and a CMB (Certified Mortgage Banker).
Prashant’s Board memberships include the Junior Achievement of Greater Washington and the Mindshare Network. He is also actively engaged with the Economic Club of Washington DC and George Washington University New Ventures Competition, as a judge, coach and mentor.
On the personal front, Prashant is an omnivorous bibliophile, an engaged father, a rookie pianist and a regular at meditation retreats.
